Manitoba Sororities
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a sorority?
A sorority is a group of like-minded, passionate, driven young women. Sororities offer sisterhood, academic support, leadership positions, and volunteer opportunities. Sorority women share values and experiences that help to form a bond that lasts a lifetime!
How do I join a sorority?
You can click the "Join Us" button on the bottom of this page and you can also attend both sororities' recruitment events (see the recruitment page for when the recruitment events are).
Does everyone who goes through recruitment get to join a sorority?
If the sorority is not at its maximum capacity then yes! If the sorority is at its maximum capacity try again for the next semester!
What if I can’t make it to the formal recruitment events?
That's okay, just let us know via email or Instagram!
Do I have to pay any fees to be a member of a sorority?
Both our sororities have dues required for their membership, but the recruitment process is free! During recruitment, each sorority will break down their fees. The fees go towards sisterhoods, events, philanthropy, etc.
Some members are supported by their families, but many work part time in order to pay by themselves! Don’t let costs deter you from joining a sorority!
Most sororities also offer payment plans, which can be divided into monthly or bi-annual instalments.
Do I need a minimum GPA to join a sorority?
No, you do not need a minimum GPA to join a sorority. However, we do encourage our members to always strive for their very best academically!
What is the time commitment?
The time commitment is based on you! We understand that as students you have other responsibilities and may not have the time to attend certain events. Our two sororities differ in their specific events, but both have meetings, sisterhoods, some required events, and some non-required events. Sisters can also always spend time with each other outside of events! We are here to support you and do our best to accommodate your schedule, but overall, you determine how much you want out of the sorority based on how much time you put into it!
Do Manitoban sororities engage in hazing?
No we do not. Sororities at the University of Manitoba are part of the National Panhellenic Conference which stands against any form of hazing. To learn more click here
